Who can enter

You can nominate yourself, or you can nominate a fiddler or band in any category. It is the responsibility of the person making the nomination to provide the stipulated supporting material for judging.

Rules (as listed on the downloadable Nomination Form)

Please read these rules and tick the ACCEPT box at the end, which will enable you to continue with your nomination.

  1. Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  2. All nominees for and recipients of the awards must be residents of Australia or New Zealand during the period of the judging, announcement and awarding of prizes.
  3. Judging of all categories will be by an Awards Jury.
  4. Awards are open to performers, composers and teachers from all musical backgrounds.  
  5. A commercial quantity of 500 CDs must have been produced to qualify for categories 3 and 4.
  6. In Categories 1 and 2, soloists, or bands are limited to three consecutive wins.
  7. Nominees for categories 3 and 4 must send one commercially produced copy of the relevant CD. 
  8. Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be judged on TWO tracks (selected by the nominee).
  9. GFA shall be authorised to make a suitable number of copies of entries for judging purposes only.
  10. No entry material will be returned to nominees.
  11. Regardless of the category, you must provide a recording (CD preferred) of your own music, on the understanding that if you win, GFA will select presentation music from this CD.
  12. Nominees in category 7 must present a recording (CD preferred) and manuscript of the composition.
  13. Nominations for all categories can be made by third parties on behalf of players, bands, teachers or composers and it will be the responsibility of the person submitting the nomination to provide the stipulated supporting materials for the purpose of judging.
  14. A person can be nominated only once in each category.
  15. All nominations for Category 6 (Best teacher) MUST be accompanied by the Teacher Profile Form (Download here).
  16. Nominations will not be accepted without a recent high resolution photograph in digital format, plus a 100 word profile, specifically written for these Awards.
  17. By agreeing to these rules, you give Golden Fiddle Awards Limited permission to use your photograph, profile, or any other information you provide, for promotional activity. The entrant also allows GFA to reproduce musical tracks on the GFA website.
  18. Please provide a website address if you have one to support your nomination.
  19. Nominees are encouraged to provide a visual recording (DVD) to support a nomination or to demonstrate diverse playing styles, but this is not obligatory.
  20. Judges of the Golden Fiddle Awards reserve the right to introduce additional categories to cover other musical genres.

(Note: Awards will be presented in Tamworth at the Country Music Festival in January 2008)

Best fiddler (as a soloist)

For performances after 1 January 2004 within Australia or New Zealand

Evidence which may be in the form of video, sound recording, programs, press clippings, reviews, tour schedules, promotional material, photographs, or any other format to support the nomination.

You must nominate TWO contrasting tracks on this CD on which you wish to be judged

2 Best band, group, ensemble or orchestra featuring a fiddler

For performances after 1 January 2004 within Australia or New Zealand

Evidence which may be in the form of video, sound recording, programs, press clippings, reviews, tour schedules, promotional material, photographs, or any other format to support the nomination.

The names of all band members MUST be listed

You must nominate TWO contrasting tracks on this CD on which you wish to be judged

Best CD by a fiddler as soloist

Released after 1 January 2004 within Australia or New Zealand

The Nominee declares that they have produced a commercial quantity of minimum of 500 CDs

One commercially made copy of your nominated CD to be provided.

You must nominate TWO contrasting tracks on this CD on which you wish to be judged

Best CD by a band, group, ensemble or orchestra featuring a fiddler

Released after 1 January 2004 within Australia or New Zealand

The Nominee declares that they have produced a commercial quantity of minimum of 500 CDs

The names of all band members MUST be listed

You must nominate TWO contrasting tracks on this CD on which you wish to be judged

Youth achievement award

To honour young and emerging fiddle players, bands or bands featuring fiddlers.

Individual entrants must be 25 years or under prior to the closing date for entries and in the event of a nomination by a band, the majority of members must be 25 years or under prior to the closing date for entries.

Supporting documentation to cover the achievements of the person or band nominated and listing reasons to support their nomination. Additional evidence, if available, which may be in the form of video, sound recording, programs, press clippings, reviews, tour schedules, promotional material, photographs, or any other format to support the nomination.

You must list name and age of entrant (s)

Best fiddle teacher in 2007 within Australia and New Zealand.

 

The nomination must be provided on the Teacher Profile Form which may be accompanied by other supporting documentation. Note that a recording (CD preferred) of a performance by the teacher MUST be provided with the nomination.
7 Best fiddle composition (open to all musical styles where the essential element of fiddling as described in Rule 4 above, is embraced). A recording (CD preferred) and manuscript must be provided.
